Brahmakamala

Brahmakamala (Night Queen), a flower which starts blooming after sunset, completely bloom by midnight & dies before sunrise. Fragrance of this flower is so intense that one can smell it almost from 8-10 meters distance.

11 of them bloomed couple of weeks ago at home. Whole night, our house was filled with the fragrance.

Have a nice weekend.

    Hi Prahsanth,

What an intriguing post. Is there a particular geographical region in India where this grows, or is it found throughout the country?

I grew up in Calcutta and went to school in Darjeeling and never came across it there.

Interesting that you list To Kill A Mockingbird among your favourite reading. It is one of my all-time favourite novels and I guess it’s relevant in retrospect because my novel `Vegemite Vindaloo’ (published by Penguin) deals with shades of prejudice as well.

    Cheers

    David

I know it as the ‘Star of Bethlehem’. Still, what’s in a name? The flower will smell just as sweet:)
Seven of these wonderful flowers bloomed in our garden a week ago.

    Thanks for the comment, Veena.

David, I’ve no idea about north India. But have seen this flowers in southern part.

Anand Balaji, in my uncle’s place a total of 93 flowers bloomed same night – that was 2 years ago.

Bach, yes but studied it as it was compulsory in academics. Never liked biology. Biology andre allergy nange :)

Btw, I really liked your top panel … in which you have provided the links to all your blogs and profile.
