Dasara

Dasara/Navarathri – the nine festival has begun. Its the festival where whole state irrespective of religions celebrate.

In few homes, people still follow the old rituals of arranging the dolls for nine days (through out the festival) viz King & Queen, the small version of the famous ‘ambari’, create miniature parks etc.

Here is a snap taken last year in our house :)

    Hi Prashanth, thanks for dropping by at my blog. I saw your post about the doll arrangement and also the picture, it is very beautiful and warm.

    I was very much attracted to the tallest doll, a Devi holding the trident in her hand (Chamundi perhaps!). I was wondering whether that doll is a ‘keelu-gombe’, one that has movable hands and legs whose posture you can change and deck up the doll in varieties of costumes to depict various characters. Let me know about it and also how long is that doll in your family? Is it a family heirloom?

    Yeah, its ‘keelu-gombe’. You can change the posture however you want. Its almost 30 years old doll. My mom got that during her marriage from her mother (i.e. my grandma).

    Another special feature of the doll is whatever be the costume – be it a male one or a female dress — its suits accordingly.
